Húsavík, the original film location to Netflix’s "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga", is home to the Eurovision Song Contest Exhibition. Let us take you on a journey through Europe’s legendary song contest, the history of Iceland at the competition, and a behind-the-scenes look at the Netflix original film.

This is the only place in the world where you’ll find exclusive items from past Eurovision acts and original props, and costumes from the Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga film. Join us and celebrate the song contest that unites a whole continent and the film that made our town proud.

Situated just down the street from our hotel, one of the few museums in Europe dedicated exclusively to whales offers a unique and educational insight into these magnificent marine mammals. Housed in the town’s historic old slaughterhouse, the museum has become one of the most popular destinations in North Iceland.

The 1.400 m² exhibition space features a diverse range of displays that combine science, storytelling, and visual experience. Among the highlights are skeletons of 13 different whale species, interactive exhibits, and in-depth information on whale biology, behavior, marine ecosystems, the history of whaling, and modern conservation efforts. The exhibitions are designed to be engaging for visitors of all ages.

The swimming pool is conveniently located — about a 5 minute walk down the street from our hotel. The hot tubs are large, spacious, and recently tiled. There are two hot tubs, all supplied with pre-heated cold water, while the main pool is heated with geothermal water. The swimming pool is 16.67 m. long but there is also a small children's pool with a higher temperature. Two water slides are open during the summer months.

The horseshoe-shaped hollow named Ásbyrgi is a unique natural formation located just a 45 minute drive away from Húsavík. .

The cliffs at Ásbyrgi are as high as 100 metres at the innermost part of the pass, under which there is the pool Botnstjörn with lush vegetation all around it. Ásbyrgi is 3.5 km long and approximately 1.1 km wide. At its centre is a distinctive rock formation, Eyjan, which is up to 250 m wide. The area is wooded, particularly with birch and willow as well as mountain ash. Also, several thousand pines were planted there and have grown healthily. Fulmars lay their eggs in the precipitous cliffs, and other birds make their nests in wooded areas and heathland.

It is believed that Ásbyrgi was formed by outburst floods from Vatnajökull during at least two instances of natural catastrophes, one of which took place 8-10 thousand years ago and the other about 3 thousand years ago. Since then, Jökulsá has shifted to the east. According to legend, Sleipnir, the eight legged horse belonging to Odin happened to put one of his hooves down when the god was riding past.

Dettifoss Waterfall is one of the most dramatic natural landmarks in North Iceland and is often described as the most powerful waterfall in Europe.

It reaches peak intensity during the warmer months, when glacial melt swells the Jokulsa a Fjollum River and sends water roaring into the canyon below. The waterfall is often paired with stops at canyons, geothermal areas, and wildlife-viewing sites that highlight the diversity of the region.

The best time to visit is during summer (June–September) – Roads are more accessible, and hiking trails are safer. However, winter offers stunning frozen landscapes, but access can be difficult.

Godafoss Waterfall is one of Iceland’s most iconic natural wonders, steeped in history and mystery. The mythic waterfall stands out as a must-see destination in North Iceland, attracting photographers, hikers, nature enthusiasts, and history buffs alike. 

Located on the ring road between Akureyri and Húsavík, Goðafoss is easily accessible at any time of the year. The "Waterfall of the Gods" got its name from the year 1000 AD, when Iceland converted to Christianity. According to legend, a local chieftain named Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði symbolically threw his pagan idols into the waterfall, marking the nation’s peaceful transition to a new faith.

Godafoss is surrounded by rugged lava fields and dramatic basalt formations and offers scenic walking paths on both sides of the river Skjalfandafljot. Visitors can enjoy panoramic viewpoints, capture stunning photos, and feel the mist of the falls on their faces.

Lake Botnsvatn is a beautiful body of water near Húsavík, surrounded by lush valleys, mountains, and wildlife. It’s a popular destination for hiking, birdwatching, and fishing.

Lake Botnsvatn occupies a picturesque setting south of Husavik and has a modest size of approximately 0.4 square miles (1.05 square kilometers). Its elongated shape is complemented by irregular shorelines, creating a captivating landscape for visitors to explore. 

Within Botnsvatn, a diverse range of aquatic life thrives, including small trout and Arctic char. The lake and its adjacent wetlands also serve as vital habitats for various bird species. Ducks, geese, waders, and other waterfowl can be observed in the area, particularly during migration seasons.

Beyond its natural allure, Lake Botnsvatn holds cultural significance in Icelandic folklore. Local legends suggest the lake is inhabited by hidden folk, elves, and other mythical creatures, adding to its unique charm.

Húsavíkurfjall, the Husavik Mountain rises gently above the town, offering a rewarding escape into Iceland’s untouched northern beauty. This landmark is visible from most of our hotel rooms, rising more than 400 meters above sea level.

The hike starts at the scenic viewpoint of Gónhóll, just north of Húsavík, where parking is available. From the summit of Húsavíkurfjall, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views over the town, Skjálfandi Bay, and the Kinnarfjöll mountains beyond. On clear days, the islands of Flatey and Lundey are also visible. The area features several hiking trails suitable for all skill levels, and you can even begin your ascent directly from the town center — for instance, from the local campsite or one of the nearby marked paths.

Please note that the road to the top of Húsavík Mountain is open to both hikers and cyclists, though cycling can be quite demanding on the steeper sections. During summer, cars may also use the road, so be mindful of your surroundings. The top of the mountain is 417 meters above sea level.
